I did end up looking into this further this weekend. I apologize it took me so long.
It appears most of the throttle pedal play you are seeing is internal to the unit itself (inside the plastic portion). It does not appear to be from the rod itself. I stopped looking any further at this point as I am personally not interested in ruining my throttle pedal. So I am unsure if there is a "fix" to this or not. I hope this helps some.
