Dangerous to make generalizations. Mine has used oil from day one. I first thought it was due to the engine break-in so didn't report it. But it's only used about a quart per 3k miles so way lower than what Subaru considers normal (one quart per 600miles).
Consumption has dropped to about one quart per 5k miles since I switched to 0W-30 oil...
Back to OP's question, if you are getting an M/T, you might want to get a 2017+ due to throw out bearing issues ($800 repair). The TOB was updated in MY2017 cars. But OTOH I haven't had any issues after replacement.
