The recall does cover a repair that results from the broken spring, in the case the recall was not done. Of course, you run the risk of proving that was the issue.

I had mine done early and fortunately there have been no issues. However, at this point, and with over 140,000 miles on the engine, I wouldn't have it done and take my chances. Works case, you get a new engine. Seems OK to me.
