Happened once in my 335i as well, which I had a plate relocate on, but the screw had come loose and I didn't want the whole thing to fall off the car, so I tossed it in the trunk and just forgot about it. Again I was let off with a warning, but both cops said they'd ticket me if they saw me driving again with no plate on the front.

Did you have a death wish? lol. Front plate on your dash in an accident.. I could only imagine if that sharp metal happened to get thrown at your face or a passengers face.
