I've heard about this concern but I always wonder how much of a problem it actually is.
I used to have a Corolla XRS, dropped it on Tien S tech springs (the drop was quite big, something like 2 inches due to the car's insanely high stock ride height, resulting in a fist sized wheel gap) and kept the OEM shocks (never changed them)

I never had shock issues with the car over the course of around 8-9 years.
