I’ve bought all my cars across the lake which happens to be out of state.

The process is simple and the dealership should know what to do and help you along the way.

Call your insurance company before hand. Get a price quote and have them save the quote for you.

The dealership you buy the car from will give you a temp registration and inspect it for you in that state (for you. CT)
They will try to calculate the sales tax for the state you live in and factor that into the sale price.
At the dealer you call your insurance company back and have them fax over the coverage on your new car

Proceed to enjoy your car as you drive off the lot.
The dealer will mail you a check and all the sales paperwork and you take that to your dmv where you hand them whatever checks and paperwork you’ve been given. Bring a blank check because there always seems to be a balance you have to pay. My most recent case $142 for example. You get your new plates and You’re all set.

Good luck. Enjoy the new car.
