Oh yes, I reckon I should give @ DarkPira7e , a straight answer.
In my retirement years, I am known as Dad, Pa-pa or (whatever mrs humfrz decides to call me, depending on the situation.) I usually address people as sir or hon, because I usually can't remember either their first or last name.

Thank you for your detailed reply, the more replies I read, I get the feeling that I'm just stubborn. Until I'm asked or corrected, I'll continue as I have been
although outside of the workplace, when I go see a doctor or whatnot, I address them formally regardless of how close we are (unless they specify otherwise).
