This is very true especially working at a bank where VPs just meant top sales and they are a dime a dozen. The real ranking came in the form of sales revenue where they are numbered in their respective LOBs. We had the best time dealing with these high rollers at work as they considered everyone that are hired at the company supposedly "highly educated" and should be spoken and treated as such regardless of pay band.
When I first started out working at Big Blue I came to realized that the Americans addressed their clients by "Sir" and "Ma'am", yet in Canada this would be considered awkward and should address them by their first names instead.
Over the years I've got a few "you don't need to call me sir" comments from Canadian bankers.
