It's the amount of air drawn through and the amount of particulates in the air.
Highly variable and down to local conditions.

If you did a lot of driving during the forest fires last fall, then I'd advise a new filter soonish.
If it was parked up then, shouldn't be a problem.

But there was significant fire smoke the year before too.
