Although my car is a 2014 Scion FR-S, I'm a VERY low-mileage driver (still under 15K miles) and have never changed the stock engine air filter.

I supposed I'll upgrade to the K&N model:

But I only want to upgrade once the existing stock filter has outlived its usefulness.

I would imagine that air filters isn't something that gets "stale" over time, so it has to be mileage-based when it comes to replacement intervals. I live in the Seattle region.
