I'm surprised that they implemented a resistor unit on the 86 to get DRL functionality. On most Toyotas, for DRL they simply run the high beam bulbs in series so that way each bulb gets around half of its nominal voltage (6-7V instead of 12-14V). I guess I find it surprising that they added a resistor unit on a car that's supposed to be lightweight (albeit the difference is negligible) instead of using Toyota's usual bulb-in-series design.
