I am not disputing that SUVs are BETTER in the snow. My dispute is that all other cars are immobilized as soon as there are a few inches. The whole idea is ludicrous.
The small car segment is doing just fine. The SUVs are not going to take over the world. All they have done is replace the large sedan and station wagon segments. No real loss.

It sounds that you don't like the SUV's that much? VW said recently that they want to offer 30 different SUV/Crossover models by 2025. Currently they offer 11 different models. If this is not a SUV take over then what is it?
