Considering that the 2ZR and whatever boxer engine will be installed in the FT have probably 0 things in common, this wouldn't make any sense from a price savings standpoint. They would be better off using an econo-subaru engine, of which I have no suggestion, since I know nothing about the company in detail.
I know a lot of us Toyota enthusiasts have this deep disconnect with the FT if only because it doesn't have a toyota/yamaha joint engine under the hood, the staple of historically awesome Toyota sports cars since....uh, forever. So to us its kind of a slap in the face that Toyota turned over the heart and soul of the car to a different company.
