Which Lexus coupe? The RC or the LC? Both could've been solid candidates to become a rebadged Toyota and carry the Supra nameplate, in my opinion. However, the LC is very heavy, so I think the RC would've been a better candidate, that being said, some styling cues on the Supra seem to be carried over from the RC F, so while the cars may not be related by a powerplant, chassis, or any shared parts, they might be related on looks.

I guess Toyota just really didn't want to spend the money on developing their own performance inline-6, so they opted to let BMW do that for them.
