Generally a muffler will affect volume and a resonator will affect tone.
Delete the muffler and the car gets louder, but now you'll have some rasp to deal with.
A bigger resonator can change the tone from raspy to deep, but you'd need a very large resonator (like OEM) to eliminate the rasp of a muffler delete IMO.
But I think these things are best learned on your own. You should get a used muffler delete kit and see if it's even your thing. I had a muffler delete kit for a little bit, so I understand the urge to get one when it's so cheap and the car actually sounds quite good with it.
I personally like a slightly smaller muffler than stock with a slightly smaller resonator. Lots of aftermarket catbacks in this configuration.
