There's a few, beside the ones @cfd mentioned but they tend to come from smaller shops like the Hennessey Venom (based on the Exige) and the F5 and the SSC Ultimate Aero (fastest production car before the Veyron). Then there are the Saleens, and a few other exotics.

As far as a pile of crap, well I'm not sure I can agree with that, at least not any longer. Most of the US stuff are "muscle cars" rather than "sports cars" admittedly (because that's what the buying public wants and that's what counts), but the recent models (particularly from GM and Ford) have made great strides in handling and looks in my opinion, but that is always in the eye of the beholder.
