In 2015, I was able to convert my 2013 BRZ completely back to stock and recoup about 75% of the cost of my mods (which were nearing $20,000) to trade it in for a very fair number when I found a great deal on a 911; wouldn't have been so lucky if I sold off all my stock parts and tried trading in a heavily modded car.
My '17 carries the same mantra, though I'm going much lighter on the mods this time around.

100% agree. I really, really screwed myself over with mods on my 335i. Went catless and sold the OEM dowpipes. Went for mods over fixing existing issues which really came back to bite me. When things started to fail, I had no money to fix. Brought down the value of the car a lot. I did buy the first car I fell in love with without properly getting it inspected and that was a tough, expensive lesson to learn.
My advice would be to not change anything on a car unless you KNOW it is 100% useful and necessary. Some things are just not worth it. Sure everyone has different priorities and that’s fine. But I’d rather pay the car off quicker and save money for bills than to buy RPF1s and a lip for a car that has never seen a track.
