My biggest concern would be the packing seal. Remember they were fucking that up straight from the factory in the beginning and that was on new surfaces that didn’t have preexisting packing to properly clean. The biggest consumer of time when I rebuilt my engine was cleaning packing. That isn’t an exaggeration either. This is were techs would cut corners because it’s a pain in the ass to get all of it off.
Items they will touch with packing:
Timing cover
Valve covers
HP fuel pump
Cam subassemblies
Also remember that they are trying to avoid removing the heads (or so they say) so think about scraping packing off a head and shit dropping down in there. If the heads were coming off then you can remove the packing and then flush out what ever dropped in. You should have seen the mess in my garage after spending 3 days (12 hours or so combined) removing this shit. I had to deal with more parts because I was doing a full rebuild but still.
These engines ARE different. They are still engines and techs are fully capable of dealing with them. But people (on this forum) are seriously underestimating how big of a pain in the ass this job is compared to just about any other engine.
