Haha I agree. It's a fun and nimble car to whip around.
I run 9 inch wheel at the track with an appropriate tire. I don't mind being able pulling some extra G's over tires I can put on a 7 or 8 inch wheel, and there are still plenty of chances to lose traction (from experience). Although there is opportunity to form bad habits, it's also a little more forgiving to learn with a larger tire (increased grip, greater time with grip before overheating the tire)
I think most people who run a 9 inch wheel for performance application just want to take advantage of as much grip you can get on the car without giving up too much nibleness/agility like you said.
