Ethanol has nothing to do with crickets. I had them even on ethanol-free gas.
It's the regional/seasonal blend and additive package. Mine is more likely to chirp on winter blend gasoline, which has butane in it. It also chirps like an entire forest if I use Sam's Club gas. My fuel pump really doesn't like whatever additives they put into their gas (or leave out of it).
Since you can't really know what is in the gas, all you can really do is keep an ear on your fuel pump and become a repeat customer at the station(s) where it's quieter. Even then, it's possible to have a quiet fuel pump on a particular gas, then have it change when the blend changes in the fall or spring.
