About recall of Impreza, Forrester, BRZ
On November 1, 1990, SUBARU Co., Ltd. reported the recall of Impreza, Forester, BRZ to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Recall notification number No. 4361 Recall date Upon preparation
Fault site (part name) Prime mover (valve spring)
In reference incompatibility state and
structure to admit, apparatus or performance
status and Hara Cause Since the design is inappropriate in the valve operating mechanism part of the prime mover, the spring may be broken due to excessive load than the design condition of the valve spring and minute foreign matter in the spring material due to general manufacturing variation. Therefore, abnormal noise is generated from the engine and engine malfunction occurs, and in the worst case, the engine may stop during traveling.
I spent a while looking for actual failures on the models listed and found nothing. Looks like they identified the possible failure internally and not through actual reported issues. Not that it makes it a better situation for those affected but at least there is some comfort in knowing they are dealing with it.
