Thanks. Luckily, I only paid $600 plus an exhaust that I didn't want when I bought the wagon in '09. It had 90% tread on the SO-3's.
Yes, I agree with cleaning them is a hassle which is why I painted them graphite.
Also you can wax the wheels or seal them to help the brake dust to not cling to the finish.
