I finally replaced factory armrest with a home made one.
Bought a pre-stitched leader armrest cover for a wrx or something from ebay. It comes with the top and side pieces stitched for $20+
The bottom leather I found on a discarded chair on the street.

In the future I might rig a hinge from a insert on the cup holder.
