It's not a question of matching the ND2, it's a question of getting close for less money. Slightly lighter rods and pistons are always a nice to have but chances are the engine isn't going to blow up if you don't swap them out.
To get the higher rpms safely the valve springs should probably be swapped out, and while you're at it, the cams might as well be swapped out too. That should pick up a decent chunk of the power difference.
Again, if the ND1s drop in price fast enough, this could be a cheap, fun project.
