What does it have to do with them being cheap? A short shifter costs the same as the OEM shifter to produce.
The reason they don't come with an even shorter shifter stock than they do is because of driveability for average people.
Drive most other manual cars and you'll realize how short the stock shifter already is compared to the average manual car.
