A harder/better fastener is not always better. For such a simple device, there's a lot going on. You've got various force vectors, friction, heat cycles, fatigue, particulates, corrosion, etc. Its a bit much for me to explain in more detail and give examples at the moment, unfortunately (at my mom's retirement party lol). The OEM torque specification was calculated and tested on OEM lugs with OEM lugnuts. If you change something of those, it's possible that you have now made that specification incorrect.
