Trying to reply to cjd's post re/ practicing violin and Humfrz "Oh, your poor neighbors!" post, but the multiquote isn't working for me right now..
In any case, Humfrz... nah... the neighbors of the kid who DIDN'T practice daily are the ones that truly suffered when that kid dragged the instrument out of the case once a week. If cjd spent the summer practicing, he/she probably sounded pretty good!
As a life-long professional violinist and teacher... kudos, cjd. Violin's a bear to learn and play well ... it ain't for the faint of heart physically, either. In the hands of a master, one of the most beautiful sounds in the world.

Tcoat .. nerd?!? Someone who prefers making good music on a difficult instrument and advanced mathematical intellectual stimulae to video games? Aren't you an engineer!?!? I can't stand video games, either.. and our pop culture reveres them so much that I even bought my wife an Xbox One for Christmas this year to find out what we're missing. I still don't get them! Guess I'm just not one who enjoys sitting down.
