Oh. Instant mpg? I can only second Tcoat that it's meaningless.
It gives you nothing in relation to how much you may need to actually fill at pump. Think of it as useless virtual unprecize number, that noone knows how it's actually measured/calculated by ecu and mostly noone also cares about it. I can get it to max out while in traffic jam. It falls to little numbers when lifting throttle while at speed. If it changes a bit .. why should one care?
If you really care to compare fuel usage, i suggest to 1) reset mpg & trip A or B on dash when you fillup tank, 2) fill it full. 3) On next fuel tank visit fill it full again.
1-2 will let you get actually useful number
3 will let you get it even more precise, when you manually calculate mpg trip A distance vs how much you filled in tank till full.
