I want to make android auto users aware that android 8.0 caused the software to completely break for me.
I have an LG G6, and on android 8.0 it was impossible to establish a connection to my car regardless of the cables I used (original or "certified" cables). I have since had to downgrade and recover my phone to a 7.X android OS and everything is working fine again.
During my research for a fix this seems to be fairly common on a number of phones that have gone to 8.0. This has been a known issue since December 2017 when 8.0 started rolling out but there wasn't a fix yet for my phone. Android 8.1 fixed the issues on some devices, but that update isn't available for phone yet. Lucky me the Canadian version of my phone is not able to be flashed with custom roms so my only option was to downgrade entirely.
Oddly enough, 8.0 is supposed to enable wireless android auto for compatible head units (not applicable to DDX917WS or DDX918WS to my knowledge).
Just a heads up to check before you update your phones!
