For me, I believe it was due to a worn belt. Sprayed it with a can and a half of belt conditioner and marine-duty dry silicon lube and it went away. The issue with that is the fact I had to have my unit replaced due to an unbearably high-pitched intake whistle that appeared shortly after that same chirping noise presented itself to me... be careful.
