As for Scion being created to tap into the younger demographics... Coulda just built a cool fuckin' car. Pretty sure its a lot cheaper than starting up a whole company.

I mean, I fit perfectly into the Scion "demographic" being 22 years old, and I honestly cringe when I see a Scion commercial / video. Granted there are always outliers but I don't feel Scion was justly created.

Considering they did an amazing job with the first generation Matrix I don't think Scion was needed. I know more people in their mid 20's driving in first gen Matrixes (Matrices?) than I do who drive a Scion. Just sayin' they coulda just built a couple cars under Toyota to capture the younger peeps attention.

I don't think theres anything wrong with one "Brand" carrying a wide variety of products that cater to a wide variety of audiences. I'm pretty sure thats how a company starts off. And last time I checked Hyundai / Kia were doing pretty damn good with the whole line up under one badge.

imo....the Matrix looks like a van. Like the XRS (2005 body style), the motor is the only thing worth notating about it. Wrong chassis, wrong dimensions for anything to do with "cool" looking or being track worthy.

I don't think a New "car" can equate to the buzz that a New "company" produces, so that could be a driving force behind the creation of a whole entity. At the time of Scion's creation, no one was buzzing about a RWD 2+2 coupe. Then came along the Gen Coupe to sorta inject something into that (but poor performance imo), and then all of a sudden everyone is screaming for an affordable RWD 2+2 coupe sports car.
