1) Yes, that was my point all along. The basic argument you and Ho are having is about socialism vs capitalism. At the abstract level, you both are in what I call "violent agreement", meaning you are both saying the same thing from different viewpoints, and getting angry at the other for not having the same viewpoint. We can all agree that you can't just stick any coil of metal on your car and say it has effective suspension. This argument is just about how you determine what coils of metal are considered safe, and that is politics.

2) Agreed. It's not just laws, but also the engineering and business standards of both Subaru and Toyota. See my post on the first page which I feel does a good job of explaining this.
