I think I first heard of the AE86 when I started watching episodes of Best Motoring and Hot Version back in the middle part of the 2000s. Didn't know what it was at the time, as I don't think I had ever even heard of Initial D. In fact, it wasn't until years later that I connected their toge segments to the anime (which I've still never seen). Heck, I still don't quite understand the rules of of the event, but it sure is fun to watch!
