I was definitely kidding. Don't do it.

I have done it in other cars accidentally, and once on purpose to stop one that was running on after being shut off. None of them exploded. However, there's a definite risk to the engine, clutch and transmission. If you stop an airplane engine mechanically, for instance by a prop strike, the FAA requires you to tear it down and inspect it for internal damage before you can put that engine back in service. The stakes are lower for a vehicle that doesn't leave the ground, but the damage potential is still there.
