I recently switched from stock tires to MPSS. One caveat- the rear of my car is gutted, front seats back- so the road noise thing... take it as you like.
MPSS are a lot louder. They pick up more dirt and rocks, so there's more noise from that. Rain noise is a lot louder. All road noise is louder.
I'm not sure about 40's (I'm in FL) but in the rain, the MPSS are night and day compared to the stockers. SO MUCH BETTER. The rainy grip of the MPSS is almost on par with the dry grip of the stock Primacies.
