How much play was there on the lower two bolts on the coilover? Maybe one side was tilted in farther than the other where the coilover bolts to the spindle. I know you said there are no eccentric bolts there, but there might be enough play to push one side out farther than the other. That would in turn cause the top hat to be in a slightly different location than the other side. I dunno, just a thought.
