Well, i admit, i just googled "average winter temperatures in New York" having no clue about weather on other side of pond. Living there imho winters are only choice that should be considered.
But South Carolina, where OP lives and probably will drive most of time, seems much warmer state, so if having to drive to north only in rare occasions, imho all-seasons might do a bit better
