Mine were fine *until* they went "off", after which time they were the absolute worst tires for grip I've experienced.

Not bad at all. Of course with less void in the tread they are more susceptible to hydroplaning, replacing before getting to the treadwear indicators is a bit more important. And of course slowing down for standing water is always a good idea! Honestly it hasn't been an issue for me.
