I was running an OBD2 logger and most of the time the oil temp never broke 250. The only time it did was at AMP where I finished my session, pulled into the pits, and my co-driver immediately went out for her session without the car having a chance to cool down. It effectively did a 40 minute session with a slight breather for a driver change, and I think it may have gotten just above 260. Also finally got brake fade as she took the checkers and broke for Turn 1... so... it was getting some use.
I think a lot of people felt like an oil cooler was going to be essential for just autocross because of the hype, but I wonder how many people actually went through with it.

I don't know anyone who thought an oil cooler was at all essential for autox. It was for those of us who would want to run SSC and also do track days. Given the SCCA's consideration of the SSC setup getting its own TT sub-class it's fairly clear they saw the potential for the car to be a multi-discipline vehicle.
Even to that you can run track days without an oil cooler, I've done all mine up to this point without one, but it's certainly not a bad idea to keep your temps much lower. Particularly since people are routinely seeing temps around 270 on track without one.
