^This^ along with... When was the last time the engine oil & air filter were changed? If not within the past 6 months or 7500 miles, I would perform this maintenance yourself so you know all of the old oil is out.
I will say from my 5 years of ownership, this engine makes all sorts of noises while cold, and it's normal.
