My 2¢ from someone who bought a brand new 86 last year:

• New cars are awesome!
•New car payments... not so awesome...
• Warranty is probably not a huge issue on this (remarkably reliable) car, but it did factor into my decision to buy new vs. used
•If you want to extensively mod the car, buy used. No point in nullifying said warranty

I shopped for about three months and only found one used '15 FR-S that I thought was worth looking at. For a vehicle that has remained basically the same since 2013, this '15 felt a lot looser and louder than a model two years newer. For me it just came down to reliability and warranty, since it is effectively my only vehicle. If this were not my DD, I'd absolutely buy used and mod the hell out of it.

(And FWIW, if I had to do it all over again I would've bought a BRZ MT with PP.)
