Try this:
You are absolutely capable of shopping for financing elsewhere in a car purchase. I visited two banks to inquire about their rates and researched Toyota's rates. I decided that Toyota's rates were very competitive but the dealership can add to the interest rates their financing sources provide to pad their profits so I was wary of this because it had happened to me before.

You DO NOT have to fill out a credit app to put down a deposit because you are not required to finance with them. Don't do it.

In my case I did but I made them assure me they would not run the app without my approval. If I decided to finance with them I wanted them to be ready to go.

Be very protective and DO NOT let anyone run your credit until the deal is finalized and you're ready to drive away in your new car.

They may push you to do this because they want to know if they should bother putting time into talking to you.
