What I did was remove the in cabin filter and then spray WD 40 all over the top of the motor (with it running and also with it off). Put the filter back in and let it run for a few minutes. The motor immediately became quiet.
It is now the end of Feb and the blower is still perfectly silent. Cheap and easy fix so far.
