I like steering wheels without the middle portion so you can rest your hand during highway trips and not mess with the direction of the car.
My contour had one like that and I miss it.
The Ford GT did this as well.

I wouldn't mind a fixed, analogue tach with screens flanking it on either side for all your redundant info. If it went full digital, I guess that would be cool. I wouldn't mind choosing between a race-style bar or a generic round tach.
I agree that the controls for everything should be angled towards the driver and within quick reach, similar to the S2000. You don't need a center screen if it is in the gauge pod.
