Doing the window "reset" trick just resets the window settings back to normal again. It's not that the car has "unlearned" or "forgotten" anything; it just pops into that mode when it detects too much resistance on the window glass, to avoid damaging any window motor components.

The service manual Subaru/Toyota uses calls it the "RESET (INITIALIZE) POWER WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR Procedure"
It appears this could be attributed to low batteries on cars as well as the service manual says this needs to be done in 3 conditions:
