If you want to build a competitive SM car, Hoosier A7's, as big as your wheels and fenders will allow, the class is indexed around cars that have 295-315 sized slicks and >400hp.
Let's put it this way, a Nissan GT-R showed up at Nationals and placed 8th in SM behind built 240sx's, Evo's, and WRX's.
But, if you're just out to have fun the RE71R's or BFG Rival S 1.5 mean you can drive to the event on the tires and drive home with little worry and still be on quick rubber. Switching to Hoosiers and stiffening the suspension to get the most out of them may make the car miserable on the street, towing a tire trailer and swapping at events is a burden imho. Some clubs have special indexed classes where you can run street tires against other people that have a car not eligible for Street or Street Touring but don't want to use slicks.
