Yes. Exactly that. Drain the gas and run it dry or douse it with Stabil Marine additive and get that through the system.
Editing again: If the tank is metal, keep it full all the time. Fill up before you park it. If there is air in the tank, it WILL rust.
Plastic tanks, not so much, but they have been known to expand when alcohol gets into the molecules.
Those should be stored dry.

Forget an "R" anything for road use. They are literally "RACE" bikes with the associated race only ergonomics. urgh.
500s are sort of a red headed step child currently. Most development is aimed at the 125, 250 and then the bigger displacements.
Mostly due to the European market and stepped permit levels.
The Honda Ascot 500 parallel twin was a nice bike, but that's really old now and carbureted.
I'd only put money down on an Injected bike now no matter the age.
