I also had my search narrowed down to the BRZ or RF after multiple test drives of many sports cars. I even strongly considered a Mustang GT although I’ve never owned a muscle car, newer Mustangs actually handle really well and offer a lot of bang for the buck... but I just couldn’t get past the size and weight of it. I’ve owned two Miatas already so I have a real appreciation for them, but the floppy suspension and light steering of the RF was a bit of a let-down compared to the incredible handling and steering of the BRZ. Also, the ND is VERY limited on interior and trunk space, more so than the NB and NC Miatas I owned before. On the other hand, if you really want a drop-top (which as you’ve said you already have with the Jeep), then that’s a win for the Miata. If you want to squeeze every ounce of gas mileage, that’s also a win for the Miata. The WRX is obviously the most practical, but it just didn’t have the sporty driving feel that the BRZ does so I think you are right by ruling it out.
