As far as color options, I hate the selection. We need matte black like on the GR-HV concept, we need a lime green, we need the Series.Yellow yellow. Subaru should throw in Hyper Blue and/or the orange that the Crosstreks get. An attractive sports car like ours deserves flashy colors.
I'd rather put that money towards lighter wheels than those 17x7.5, or wider, or better brake pads, or better tires or lowering springs, and the Sachs dampers show up for chump change every few weeks if you keep an eye out. Take that $1.2k, spend $500 on tires, $450 on brake pads and fluid, and $200 on camber bolts and an alignment and you'll have a base model car that will outrun a showroom PP at the track all day long without brake fade. All of those are mods you'd STILL want to make to a PP to be reliable at the track, so the base model will be faster and >$1k cheaper to prep for the track to equivalent performance. If you want to go faster than a base model, the PP doesn't offer any significant advantage, it's the same tires, the brakes are still prone to fade, and the base dampers are pretty damn great for driving hard already.

If you care about the "go" that $1.2k can go a long way if you know what you're looking for. A set of adjustable Konis or Bilsteins with 100k mile warranty with lowering springs or entry level coilovers, a set of lightweight 17x9 wheels, a header and tune, pretty much the only thing the PP offers that isn't really matched by the aftermarket is a cool looking set of brake calipers that are reliable. But a set of good pads in the stock calipers and a fluid flush will hold up to any abuse thrown at it for just a couple hundred bucks.

Just my 2 cents, I don't like HID's so the BRZ isn't ever an option for me, even if it was, no interest in the PP (besides, finding good pads for those calipers is a bit of a pain, but the info is trickling out on the right size)

Cheers on the color options though, I'd love to have a green FRS.
