Just for contrast, I absolutely do drive it like a Prius while commuting. (In fact, I sometimes get better mileage than my wife's Prius in her much-less-helpful driving conditions). One of the reasons I bought a BRZ is that it's fun to drive even with MPG in mind. I save the "spirited driving" for the track and canyon driving. FWIW, acceleration rates for me are dictated by traffic flow, not by my preference to be fast or slow.

Over 70k miles in 5+ years and a variety of commuting conditions, I've averaged 30.3mpg.

It is completely impossible if you live in an urban center to drive it ball out all of the time. Well not unless you don't mind tickets and accidents.
